바람과 해님, 사자와 생쥐

 

바람과 해님

 

바람과 해님은 서로 자기가 힘이 더 세다며 우겼지요.

 

"그렇다면 누구의 힘이 더 센지 시합해볼까?"

"무슨 시합을 할 건데?"

 

마침 지나가던 나그네가 보였어요.

 

"저 나그네의 외투를 먼저 벗기면 이기는 거야."

"그렇다면 자신 있어. 내가 먼저 해 보겠어."

 

바람은 나그네를 향해 세차게 바람을 불어댔어요. 하지만 나그네는 외투를 더욱 단단히 여몄답니다. 바람은 그만 지쳐서 힘이 빠져버리고 말았어요.

 

"휴우~ 더 이상 못하겠어.“

 

바람이 포기하자 이번에는 해님이 나섰어요. 해님은 따뜻한 햇살을 내리기 시작했어요. 날씨가 더워지자 나그네는 땀을 뻘뻘 흘렸어요. 그리고 움켜쥐고 있던 외투를 벗었어요. 결국 바람과 해님의 시합은 해님의 승리로 돌아갔답니다.

 

The Wind and the Sun

 

The Wind and the Sun were arguing which one was the stronger.

 

"Let's compete who is the stronger one."

"What kind of game will we play with?"

 

At that time, they saw a man passing by.

 

"Whoever takes off the coat of that man will be the stronger one."

"Very well."

 

The Wind began to blow as hard as it could upon the man.

But the harder he blew the more closely did the man wrap his coat round him till at last the Wind had to give up in despair.

 

"I can't do it anymore."

 

Then the Sun came out and shined. The Sun warmed the air and smiled gently at the man. The man unbuttoned his coat. The Sun grew slowly brighter and brighter. Soon the man felt so hot, he took off his coat. The Sun was declared stronger!

 

 

 

 

 

 

사자와 생쥐

 

사자가 나무 그늘 아래서 쿨쿨 낮잠을 자고 있었어요.

그런데 지나가던 작은 생쥐가 그만 사자의 수염을 밟고 말았어요.

기분 좋게 잠을 자고 있던 사자는 단잠에서 깨고 말았어요.

 

"어흥~ 누가 감히 겁 없이 나의 단장을 깨운 거지?"

 

화가 난 사자는 생쥐를 붙잡았어요.

 

"사자님, 살려주세요. 저를 살려주시면 반드시 은혜를 갚을게요."

 

생쥐는 오들오들 떨면서 빌었어요.

 

"하하하! 너처럼 작은 생쥐가 은혜를 갚는다고?"

 

사자는 비웃으며 생쥐를 놓아주었어요. 그런데 며칠 뒤 사자가 숲속을 돌아다니다 그만 사냥꾼이 쳐 놓은 그물에 걸리고 말았어요.

 

"어이쿠 사자 살려!"

 

멀리서 사자의 울음소리를 듣고 생쥐가 달려왔어요.

 

"사자님, 제가 구해드릴게요."

 

생쥐는 날카로운 이빨로 사각사각 그물을 갉아대기 시작했어요. 그러자 그물이 모두 끊어져 사자는 무사히 풀려날 수 있게 되었답니다.

 

“사자님, 제가 은혜를 갚겠다는 약속을 지켰죠?”

"조그만 생쥐가 나를 구해주다니, 정말 고마워.“

 

The Lion and the Mouse

 

One day, while the lion was sleeping under the tree, a naughty little mouse ran up to him and stepped on his mane. The lion woke up.

 

"Who dares to wake me up from my nap?"

 

The lion grabbed the mouse and, holding him, roared in anger.

 

“Please don't eat me. Let me go. If you save me, I will definitely repay you”

 

The terrified mouse, shaking and trembling, begged the lion.

 

“A little mouse just like you will pay me back?”

 

The lion laughed and let the mouse go.

 

A few days later, the lion was caught in a hunter's snare.

He couldn't break free and he let out a roar of anger.

 

"Please help me!"

 

The mouse heard it and ran as fast as he could.

 

"I can help you."

 

The mouse began nibbling through the ropes with his sharp little teeth.

The lion was free.

 

"I kept my promise of repaying you for your kindness."

"Thank you! You made it."
