황금알을 낳는 닭, 토끼와 거북의 달리기 시합

 

황금알을 낳는 암탉

 

농부는 암탉 한 마리를 정성껏 키우고 있었어요. 달걀을 낳으면 팔 생각이었지요.

아침이 되자 농부는 암탉이 있는 곳에 가서 달걀을 꺼냈어요.

그런데 놀라운 일이 벌어졌어요. 바로 황금알을 낳는 암탉이었던 거예요.

암탉은 하루에 한 개씩 꼬박꼬박 황금알을 낳았어요. 농부는 황금알을 팔아 금세 부자가 되었어요.

 

"하루에 딱 한 개씩만 황금알을 낳다니 아마 배 속에는 많은 황금알이 들어있을 거야. 배를 갈라서 한꺼번에 모두 꺼내면 더 큰 부자가 될 수 있겠군."

 

농부는 곧바로 암탉을 잡아 배를 갈랐어요. 그런데 어쩌죠?

암탉의 배 속은 다른 닭들과 똑같았어요.

암탉이 죽자 더 이상 황금알을 낳을 수 없게 되었답니다.

 

“으음, 내가 너무 욕심을 부렸나 봐.”

토끼와 거북의 달리기 시합

 

어느날 깡충깡충 뛰어가던 토끼가 엉금엉금 걷고 있는 거북을 만났어요.

 

"깔깔깔! 이 느림보 거북아, 그렇게 느릿느릿 걸어서 언제 집까지 갈래?"

 

토끼는 거북을 보고 느림보라고 놀렸어요.

 

"난 느림보가 아니야. 누가 더 빠른지는 겨루어봐야 알지."

"그럼 누가 더 빠른지 경주해 볼래?"

 

그래서 토끼와 거북은 달리기 시합을 하기로 했어요.

드디어 시합 날이 되어 토끼와 거북이 다시 만났어요. 산꼭대기까지 먼저 도착하는 쪽이 이기는 시합이에요.

달리기 시합이 시작되자 토끼는 빠르게 달리기 시작했어요.

 

한참을 달리다 뒤를 돌아보니 거북은 보이지도 않았어요.

 

"느림보 거북은 나를 이길 수 없어. 여기서 잠깐 쉬었다 가야지."

 

토끼는 안심하고 바위에 누웠어요. 그런데 그만 잠이 들고 말았어요. 거북은 쉬지 않고 땀을 뻘뻘 흘리며 기어갔어요. 한참 후에 잠에서 깨어난 토끼는 주위를 둘러보았지만 거북은 보이지 않았어요. 거북이 이미 산꼭대기에 도착해서 손을 흔들고 있었던 거예요. 토끼와 거북의 달리기 시합에서 거북이 승리했어요.
